چکیده

Abstract: This study evaluates the effects of hydration and dehydration cycles (HD cycles) on seed germination four Caatinga tree species (Anadenanthera colubrina var. cebil, Enterolobium contortisiliquum, Pityrocarpa moniliformis Pterogyne nitens) subjected to different temperatures determine thermal upper lower limits germination. For this, seeds were 0, 1, 2 3 HD set germinate at 5, 10, 15, 25, 35, 40 45 °C. Germinability t50 calculated differences these parameters compared by two-way ANOVA. In addition, rate (GR = 1/t50), as well ceiling (Tc), optimum (To) base (Tb) estimate below or above which fail germinate. We observed that more cycles, better responds, especially extreme temperatures. Seeds all studied showed To between 25 35 °C, Tb < 10 Tc > The slope regression curves for submitting expands its tolerance range, revealing this pre-treatment can be efficient it increases their stress.

Tracking Seed Fates of Tropical Tree Species: Evidence for Seed Caching in a Tropical Forest in North-East India

Rodents affect the post-dispersal fate of seeds by acting either as on-site seed predators or as secondary dispersers when they scatter-hoard seeds. The tropical forests of north-east India harbour a high diversity of little-studied terrestrial murid and hystricid rodents. We examined the role played by these rodents in determining the seed fates of tropical evergreen tree species in a forest s...

Seed Hydropriming and Smoke Water Significantly Improve Low-Temperature Germination of Lupinus angustifolius L.

Seed imbibition under cold temperature is dangerous when dry seeds have relatively low water content. The aim of this study was to investigate germination of 20 lines/cultivars of narrow-leaf lupine at 7 °C (cold) and 13 °C (control) under the influence of smoke water and following seed hydropriming for 3 h at 20 °C. The efficacy of individual treatments was examined with regard to seed protect...

Tree dispersion, abundance, and diversity in a tropical dry forest.

Patterns of tree abundance and dispersion in a tropical deciduous (dry) forest are summarized. The generalization that tropical trees have spaced adults did not hold. All species were either clumped or randomly dispersed, with rare species more clumped than common species. Breeding system was unrelated to species abundance or dispersion, but clumping was related to mode of seed dispersal. Juven...

Antifungal Potential of Plant Species from Brazilian Caatinga against Dermatophytes

Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes complex, or Trichophyton spp. are the main etiologic agents of dermatophytosis, whose treatment is limited by the high cost of antifungal treatments, their various side effects, and the emergence of resistance amongst these species. This study evaluated the in vitro antidermatophytic activity of 23 crude extracts from nine plant species of sem...

Leaf thermotolerance in dry tropical forest tree species: relationships with leaf traits and effects of drought

Understanding how tropical trees will respond to extreme temperatures and drought is essential to predict how future increases in the severity, frequency and duration of extreme climatic events will affect tropical systems. In this study, we investigated leaf thermotolerance by quantifying the temperatures that resulted in a 50 % decrease in photosystem II function (T50) in experimentally grown...
